Math teacher pain · Essai solution

TSA / DSE prep needs volume, but past-paper banks are scattered and painful to assign.

1,000+ DSE + TSA authentic items in one bank: filter by grade × topic × difficulty, assign in one click, auto-marked.

Students don’t learn from wrong answers — teachers can’t debrief every trap 1-on-1.

Per-distractor trap analysis exposes why each wrong choice was tempting; class report ranks the top traps for the cohort.

Ability range in one class means uniform homework either bores the top or crushes the bottom.

Adaptive self-study: AI adjusts next-item topic × difficulty based on each student’s history. Weaker students fill gaps; stronger students level up.

Students get stuck at night — teachers can’t be on call 24/7.

24/7 AI tutor: ask by typing or speaking (Cantonese, Putonghua, or English). Tutor carries the current question as context and walks through the solution.

Key features

1,000+ DSE + TSA items

Past-paper items from DSE Core Paper 1 / 2 and TSA Paper 5 / 6 indexed by topic × difficulty × grade. Continuously expanded.

P1 – S6 full coverage

All 6 primary + 6 secondary grades aligned with the HKEAA / EDB curriculum. Each grade opens an independent topic map.

Multiple difficulty tiers

Basic / Intermediate / Advanced / Challenge tiers coexist. Each item difficulty-tagged; students pick or let AI pick.

3D geometry · auto-rendered

Circles, triangles, and solids (prisms, cones, spheres) rendered live with rotatable viewpoints. No PDF scans. Students can explore from any angle.

Trap analysis per distractor

Every distractor is tagged with its trap type (sign error, unit-miss, formula inversion, etc.). Class report ranks the cohort’s most-fallen-into traps.

Adaptive self-study

AI adjusts next item (topic × difficulty) based on history: correctness, hint-tier unlocks, time-per-question. Patches gaps, stretches strengths.

24/7 AI math tutor

Ask by typing or voice — Cantonese, Putonghua, or English. Tutor carries current question as context, breaks down steps, gives counter-examples, proposes similar items.

Teacher homework + class trap heatmap

Assign by topic × difficulty; auto-marked; class report shows weakness heatmap AND top distractor traps across the cohort.

How it works

1

Pick grade + topic (or let AI pick)

Student picks any P1 – S6 grade + topic, or lets the adaptive engine choose based on past performance.

2

Solve · instant trap debrief

Wrong answers trigger per-distractor trap analysis + hint tiers. Or ask the AI tutor in Cantonese voice.

3

Teacher gets the report

Class weakness heatmap + top distractor traps + per-student progress. One-click Word export.

FAQ

Are the 1,000+ items real DSE / TSA?
Yes — core items drawn from DSE Core Paper 1 / 2 and TSA Paper 5 / 6 past papers, supplemented by publisher and school-based items for bridging. The bank is continually expanded.
Does the 24/7 AI tutor speak Cantonese?
Yes. The tutor accepts typed or voice input in Cantonese, Putonghua, or English; it responds primarily in HK Cantonese, matching the student’s language.
Does the AI tutor just give the answer?
By default no — Socratic prompting first. Full solutions unlock only when the student explicitly asks. Teachers can override the default for their class.
How does trap analysis work?
Each of the 4 distractors is tagged with its trap type (sign error, unit-miss, formula inversion, etc.). When a student picks wrong, they see the trap description; the class report surfaces the top 3 traps the cohort falls into.
What drives adaptive self-study?
The AI combines (a) historical correctness, (b) hint-tier unlocks, (c) time-per-question to estimate mastery per topic × difficulty, then selects the next item to fill gaps or stretch strengths.
Can 3D geometry be rotated?
Yes. Solids render with Three.js and are rotatable by mouse / touch. 2D figures render as live SVG.
Handwritten answers?
Currently MC and typed short-answer. Handwriting recognition is on the roadmap.
Is student data used to train AI?
Never. Each school has its own tenant; Essai Sovereign (on-prem) available for stricter isolation.
Can we fund this with the EDB HK$500k programme?
Yes. Essai meets EDB Circular 221/2025. We provide the application template.
