Responsible AI in HK Classrooms

Essai is a purpose-built AI teaching platform for the Hong Kong K-12 curriculum — not a general-purpose chatbot. We believe AI in the classroom should support teachers and reinforce learning, not replace thinking. The four principles below run through every feature of our platform.

1. Teacher-in-the-Loop

Every AI-generated mark, comment, and suggestion can be reviewed, edited, or overridden by the teacher. What students see — feedback, scores, model answers — is finalised by the teacher. AI reduces teachers' repetitive work; it does not bypass the teacher.

2. Curriculum-aligned, not open chat

Every Essai feature is bound to a Hong Kong curriculum task — Chinese and English essays, oral practice, reading comprehension, and listening exercises. Students do not have open-ended conversations with AI, and the AI will not answer off-curriculum questions.

3. Age-tiered design

• P1–P3: students can only work on teacher-assigned tasks. No free-form chat.
• P4–S3: self-study and AI dialogue features have content filters and topic-range limits.
• Senior secondary (S4–S6): students access the full AI toolkit, paired with critical-thinking guidance.

4. Data protection

• Student conversations and submissions are never used to train foundation models.
• Data is stored in Microsoft Azure East Asia (Hong Kong) region, in compliance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
• Schools retain the right to export and delete their data at any time.
